Welcome to Serene Sleep..

I’m Annette, mum to three amazing humans, Baby and Child Sleep Consultant, and the heart behind Serene Sleep.

If you’re here, there’s a good chance you’re exhausted, overwhelmed, and wondering if sleep will ever feel like yours again. The kind of tired that seeps into everything and makes even the simplest days feel hard.

I want you to know you’re not alone, and there is a way through this.

My role is to gently cut through the overwhelm, bring clarity to what’s going on with your child’s sleep, and support you through this season of exhaustion towards a more rested, calmer family life.

My story

My journey into sleep support began back in 1999 while working in the NHS in the UK, where I trained, qualified, and went on to run a fully funded specialist Sleep Clinic for over 11 years. This clinical background gave me a strong foundation in infant and child sleep, along with extensive experience supporting families through a wide range of sleep challenges.

During that time, I saw just how deeply sleep deprivation affects families. Not only physically, but mentally too. I watched loving, capable parents begin to doubt themselves simply because they were exhausted and running on empty. That stayed with me, and it’s what continues to drive the work I do today.

Over the past 24 years, I’ve supported more than 7,000 families through the highs and lows of baby and toddler sleep. I’ve sat alongside parents who feel unsure, overwhelmed, and desperate for rest, and I’ve seen the shift that happens when sleep improves. There is nothing more rewarding than watching families reconnect, regain confidence, and start enjoying lives days again.

  • After moving my family to New Zealand in 2011, I founded Serene Sleep to bring my

experience and clinical training to Kiwi families who were struggling with sleep. I have now

spent over two decades supporting parents through sleep deprivation and helping families

find their way back to more settled nights and calmer days.

My background in child development and psychology, nutrition, and maternal mental health

allows me to look at sleep in a wider context, not just what’s happening at bedtime. I create

sleep plans that are tailored to your child and your family, because no two situations are ever

    the same.

You can feel reassured knowing you’re in experienced hands. I’ve supported thousands of

families through what feels like an impossible stage, and I know how overwhelming it can be

when you’re running on very little sleep. Sleep is a biological necessity, not a luxury, and

your family deserves the best rest possible.

My background and training in child development and psychology, nutrition and maternal mental health enables me to devise a sleep plan specific to your child's, and your family's, needs. You can be assured that I have the skills and knowledge to support you through your seemingly impossible situation.  Sleep is a biological necessity and your family deserves the best sleep they can get.

  • There are many different factors that can affect a child’s sleep, including how they nap, how

they feed, and their sleep environment. Over the years, I really have seen it all. From bed-

hopping toddlers and early risers to frequent night waking and short naps, no two families

present in quite the same way.

Trying to juggle a baby or toddler who isn’t sleeping well alongside work, family life, and

everyday responsibilities is exhausting. Ongoing sleep deprivation can take a real toll on both

your mental health and your overall wellbeing.

As a working mum to three children, I understand many of the challenges you may be facing,

including sleepless nights, self-doubt, and the constant pull between family and work. Many

parents today are doing this without the “village” of support that previous generations had.

Modern parenting comes with a lot of pressure and a lot of noise. That’s why the solutions I

offer are always practical, realistic, and designed to fit into real family life.

As a working mum to three children I have experienced many of the issues you might be facing such as sleepless nights, lack of confidence in certain areas, and family and work life imbalance. Many of us are parenting without 'the village' support around us. Modern day parenting is nothing like parenting of the past.  There is so much pressure and the expectation to get everything right. You’ll find the solutions I suggest are practical and take into account all the pressures today’s parents face.

  • I know from experience that a sleep plan designed specifically for your child will always be more effective than a generic approach. There are so many variables that can influence sleep and behaviour, and these need to be considered carefully.

Your tailored plan will take into account your child’s temperament and behaviour, any health or developmental considerations, your child’s sleep environment, your parenting style, your home setup, and the support you have around you. This personalised approach allows us to create a plan that feels achievable, supportive, and sustainable for your family.

  • I am the only Baby and Child Sleep Consultant in New Zealand to offer three weeks of follow-up support as standard with any of my sleep packages.

There is a very good reason for this. While many families start to see positive changes within the first few days, the adjustment period is just as important as the initial plan itself. This is often when questions come up, confidence can wobble, or small challenges appear.

Having ongoing support means you can talk things through, feel reassured, and know you’re not doing this alone. It also allows me to make gentle adjustments if your child isn’t responding as expected or if your circumstances change. Parents often

  • Through many years of working with tired, stressed parents, I’ve found that the best results come from simple, practical strategies combined with a gentle and responsive approach.

I also look at the bigger picture, not just your child’s sleep in isolation. Factors such as sleep

environment, health, nutrition, routine, and family lifestyle can all play a role, and they deserve to be considered too.

My goal is not just to improve your child’s sleep, but to support the wellbeing of your whole family, in a way that feels responsive, respectful, and achievable.

“Parents often tell me that I have a knack for bringing clarity, and that I help them see things through their child’s eyes. It helps them step back, gain perspective, and feel more confident about what to do next.”
